Pinterest Uses AI to Embrace Body Inclusivity in Searches
The first-of-its-kind technology uses shape, size and form to let users search results that show bodies like their own.

Pinterest has announced the introduction of a new AI technology to its platform that delivers greater representation in its search results. The body-type technology uses shape, size and form to let users search results that show bodies like their own.
Users are not yet able to filter or search specific body types, but a wide variety of body types will show automatically beginning with initial search results. If a user searches for date night inspiration, for example, the results will be inclusive of all body types and skin tone ranges within those results. This technology is currently only in place within wedding and women’s fashion content but is set to expand to other categories shortly.
“With the powerful addition of our new body type technology to our suite of inclusive AI efforts, we have improved representation of different body types on our platform by five times across women’s fashion related searches in the US,” says Sabrina Ellis, Pinterest’s Chief Product Officer.
This development aligns with Pinterest’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and builds upon previous efforts to diversify the platform’s search results to reflect its user base.
